RE-RELEASED: Mere decorations and occasional recitation upon the death of a family member are just some of the ways that the use and purpose of the Qur’an has been misconstrued. Sheikh Anwar Al-Awlaki explains and reminds the listener of the true purpose for the Quran’s revelation. The Sheikh looks at examples such as Ibn ‘Umar taking 14 years to memorize Surah Baqarah, whereas nowadays it could take as little as a few months. Why the discrepancy? It was due to their application of each ayat before moving on to another. One must remember to ponder, reflect and understand the Quran properly, thereby actualizing the true reason for its revelation.
Imam Anwar Al-Awlaki was born in New Mexico, USA. His parents are from Yemen where he received the early part of his Islamic Education. He has served as an Imam in Colorado, California and Washington DC.He is also the Muslim Chaplain at George Washington University. He holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University, a M.A. in Education Leadership from San Diego State University and was working on a Doctorate degree in Human Resource Development at George Washington University.Imam Anwar currently resides in Yemen.
